RESUMO

Nos séculos XII e XIII a língua e a literatura provençais assumiram uma posição de inquestionável preponderância no âmbito da cultura da Europa Ocidental. A língua provençal exerceu uma influência profunda sobre as outras línguas românicas, mormente na Galiza e no Condado Portucalense devido à presença considerável de falantes desta língua em função da aliança político-militar ibero-gálica contra os Mouros e também devido à concessão de extensos territórios a nobres da Gália para fins de colonização e prevenção de eventual reocupação, pelos Mouros, de terras já liberadas. Por conseguinte, vários fatos linguísticos duvidosos em galego e português somente podem ser esclarecidos através do provençal antigo, e o conhecimento deste se faz necessário para uma compreensão plena da gramática e do léxico de ambas as línguas.

SUMMARY

In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries the Provençal language and literature played by far the leading role in the Western Europe culture. The Provençal language had a deep influence upon other Romance languages, above all in Galicia and the Portucalese County owing to the wide presence of provençalspeaking people within the frame of the Ibero-Gallic political and military
alliance for fighting the Moors and to the granting of large tracts of land to Gallic noblemen for the purpose of settlement and prevention of eventual land re-occupancy by Moors.Therefore, plenty of doubtful language facts both in Galician and Portuguese can only be clarified through old Provençal, and its knowledge is required for a full understanding of their grammar and
vocabulary.
